the dominican flag
This is the flag of the Dominican Republic, adopted on November 6, 1844. The flag was created by the Trinitarian founding father, Jaun Pablo Duarte. It was initially used the flag of Haiti, before the Dominican Republic gained independence from Haiti.
Its white cross was chosen to signify salvation. The blue color of two of the quadrants signifies liberty. The red quadrants stand for the blood of heroes. The figure in the middle of the flag is the country’s coat of arms. It features a shield, similar to the rest of the flag. The shield is bordered by bay laurel branch (left) and a palm frond (right). Above the shield is a blue banner, which says the Trinitarian motto of the country: Dios, Patria, Libertad. This translates to God, Fatherland, Freedom. Below the shield is a red banner that says Republica Dominica, which means Dominican Republic. In the center of the shield there is a gold cross and an open Bible.
