Lake Enriquillo is the largest lake in the Dominican Republic, located in the southwestern region of the country. At 40 meters below sea level, the lake is the lowest point in the Caribbean. In the recent past it has been prone to heavy flooding. The cause for the flooding is still being debated and it is a concern because the flooding affects nearby residents. Lake Enriquillo is also recognized for being one of the only saltwater lakes in the world to house crocodiles.
